Thanks largely to momentum overseas and the IASB's "IFRS for Small and Mid-Size Entities" (a self-contained set of IFRS specifically for smaller companies), the age-old debate of whether private companies should operate under a different set of reporting standards is raging once again. (more)

The conventional wisdom tells us that IFRS is inevitable, that the global nature of business demands it, that the rest of the world thinks the United States is dragging its heals and needs to commit to convergence now. Then there are others who say, "Nonsense." (more)

The Accounting Standards Codification -- the FASB's effort to reorganize thousands of U.S. GAAP pronouncements under about 90 accounting headings -- will be launched on July 1, and everyone is tingling with anticipation ... almost. (more)

We knew it was coming. Now we know it's official. The Financial Accounting Standards Board has formally approved its Accounting Standards Codification as the "single source of authoritative, non-governmental U.S. generally accepted accounting principles." (more)
