Practically since the PC boom in the mid 1990s, individuals and organizations have been consumed - and even obsessed - with learning how to use available technology to deliver content. But what about the content itself? Are we giving content the time and attention it deserves? After all, what good does it do to have a slick web site and to hold accounts on all the latest social media sites if no one cares about what you have to say? The time and attention of members is at a premium, and as demands gr... (more)

It has become a cliché that first-time visitors to Twitter respond with some version of: “I don’t get it.” On Tuesday night, Twitter unveiled a brand-new home page that tries to solve that problem — and makes Twitter look a lot more like a real-time search engine. The main feature on the new home page is a big search box under the suggestion “See what people are saying about…” People can type a word or phrase into the box and see the latest relevant tweets. This is a big change for Twitter and makes it more... (more)

Free today? Not for long Disney plans to experiment with a paid-subscription model online, Robert Iger said, at a conference sponsored by Fortune magazine. The Disney CEO added that people are willing to pay for quality content if they perceive it has value, MediaBuyerPlanner reports. A subscription model will give Disney better knowledge of customers, as their activities and interests can be tracked. That, in turn, will lead to the ability to charge marketers higher prices, he observed, writes Bloomberg.... (more)

Every once and a while I will engage in a conversation with someone -- whether in the office, on the road, at Cannes, at the local eatery, you name it -- and they will say something that inspires a barrage of new thoughts. In each instance the statement's effect on me frequently goes unnoticed by the giver, while in my mind it sparks a very intense and enduring stream of thoughts which for weeks change the way I approach life or in this case marketing. "I like the breeze," Consalvo said, working all the while. Gruber and Consalvo are digital nomads. They work -- clad in shorts, T-shirts and sandals -- wherever they find a wireless Web connection to reach their colleagues via instant messaging, Twitter, Facebook, e-mail and occasionally by voice on their iPhones or Skype. As digital nomads, experts say, they represent a natural evolution in teleworking. The Internet let millions of wired people work from home; now, with widespread WiFi, many have cut the ... (more)

We work with thousands of clients across many different industries. Each client presents a unique set of challenges when it comes to analyzing and solving deliverability challenges. But there are a few common mistakes that we see pop up over and over. Thinking that deliverability failures don’t happen to them. In the U.S. most e-mail marketers are aware that some legitimate e-mail gets blocked from inboxes. They just generally think it’s the e-mail of other companies – certainly not theirs. When you open your Facebook profile and see a friend request from someone you’ve never met, consider this before you hit “accept”: the more online contacts people have, the less their networking power. This is according to new research conducted by Professor Zsolt Katona from the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley, Professor Miklos Sarvary from INSEAD in France, and Peter Pal Zubcsek, a Ph.D. Candidate at INSEAD. Why quantity means less quality The study found that in order to get the most out of soc... (more)

The New Rhythm of Relationships

Monday, June 22, 2009 1:30:08 AM GMT Sunday, June 21, 2009 7:01:14 AM GMT
Essentially, the internet had flipped the world’s social dynamic on it’s head. It turned a world of Don’t Talk To Strangers into a world of Talk to Strangers. I proposed that more relationships were formed online in the digital space between total strangers than were being formed in the physical space. The days of going over to meet the neighbors with apple pie had been replaced with a few key strokes and a screen name. It’s the brave new world of extremely superficial, and often times dangerous relationshi... (more)

It's critical that your subject line grabs attention. Avoid the generic ones: Important, Urgent, Follow-up, Looking for your response. A subject line needs to provide the takeaway of your message. This isn't the time to be mysterious, cagey, or anything but clear and direct. Design a message that is visually appealing and easy to read to keep your reader's attention. • Immediately communicate your purpose. • Get to the point. E-mail isn't for writing articles. • Use bullet points to add emphasis to your w... (more)
